RYA Level One  - Introduction to Powerboating

Course duration: one day (0900 - 1700)
Minimum age: 8*

The aim of the level on course is to provide a practical introduction to powerboat handling and safety. The course is ideal for novices who have no experience aboard powerboats, or other vessels. The maximum number of students on a course is three and this ensures that everyone gets plenty of time at the wheel of the boat. An outline syllabus is shown below.

  • Preparation and safety
  • Launching and recovery
  • Engine and steering controls
  • Basic boat handling
  • Mooring buoys
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Being towed

8-11 year olds will receive the following endorsement The holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult on board the craft. 12-16 year olds will receive the following endorsement The holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult. Under 18s are very welcome on powerboat courses, however 8-15 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult and 16-17 year olds must have their booking form countersigned by a parent or guardian. The course runs on the East coast  Ipswich, Suffolk, Essex borders.
