RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Shorebased Training

This course develops your theory to the level needed to take your Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Practical exams. Your knowledge needs to be up to Day Skipper standard before taking this course.

The course will extend and develop your knowledge of skippering a yacht. You will cover in detail many aspects of navigating a sailing boat in tidal waters, including various techniques for position fixing, course plotting and working up estimated positions. There is special emphasis on the Collision Regulations and Meteorology.

Courses take place in our dedicated classroom at Shotley Marina. Practice charts, tables, a course handbook and a copy of the collision regulations are supplied, but students will need plotting instruments for chart work, these are available for a small charge at the beginning of the course.
